Aaron Bushnell (1998–2024) was a 25-year-old U.S. Air Force cyber defense operations specialist stationed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. On February 25, 2024, he self-immolated outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., to protest U.S. support for Israel's actions in Gaza. Before his act, Bushnell declared, "I will no longer be complicit in genocide," and shouted "Free Palestine" as he set himself on fire. Raised in a conservative Christian community in Massachusetts, he later identified as an anarchist and became increasingly critical of U.S. foreign policy.
