Expose the hidden cost of your tech. Congo’s mines fuel our devices at the expense of human rights, with workers exploited for minerals like cobalt and coltan.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), vast deposits of minerals like cobalt, coltan, and tin—essential for electronics and smartphone chips—are extracted under exploitative conditions. Many mines operate illegally or without oversight, forcing adults and children to work in dangerous environments for meager pay. Workers often labor without proper safety equipment, risking injury or death, and face physical abuse, hazardous chemicals, and collapsing mine shafts.
Much of this exploitation is tied to systemic corruption and foreign interests, where multinational corporations benefit indirectly from the low-cost minerals while turning a blind eye to the abuses. These operations are driven by Western demand for electronics, perpetuating cycles of poverty and violence in local communities while depleting their natural resources.
